Context
The challenge

Tuberculosis diagnosis in Tanzania relied on manual microscopy — slow, expensive, and inconsistent. Detection rates were low, costs were high, and the system couldn't scale to meet the population's needs.

Our approach
  • Designed and implemented an AI-assisted diagnostic workflow for TB detection

  • Integrated the solution into existing laboratory infrastructure

  • Trained local healthcare workers to operate and trust the new system

  • Managed stakeholder alignment across USAID, local health authorities, and technical partners

The outcome

TB detection rates improved by 48% while costs dropped by 94%. Over 900,000 samples were processed through the new system. The project demonstrated that AI in healthcare works best when designed around the people who use it — not just the technology.
